This set of ten word choice sliders are a great tool for children to learn how sentences, their meanings, and the ways they should be read can be based on changing a couple of simple words. When children slide the choices of words in the different positions, they can change the entire meaning of the sentence. They can use these sliders to express themselves when they are speaking, based on the word choice made in the two windows of the sliders.

WHAT YOU GET: This set of word sliders is made from plastic to help them stand up to the use in the classroom. Each of the 10 sliders has a 7” base and a 6” height. The two sliders in each measure 2.5” x 8”. Their overall assembled size in 7” x 8” at the smallest measurement.
WORD CHOICE: Have individual students read the sentence several times, changing the two-word choices each time. Encourage the student to convey expression while reading.
GREAT FOR READING EXPRESSION: In a large group setting, select word choices for each of the two spaces. Using expression, read a couple of variations and discuss with the group how the sentences differ based on changing two simple words or phrases. Then, have the children practice using words they choose.
GREAT FOR WRITING PROMPTS: Have a small group of students take turns choosing a word for each of the two spaces. Then, have the students use that sentence as the first sentence of a short story. Next, have students read their stories out loud for the group. Discuss how different the stories are based on the words each student chose.
