Excellent for homework!

This book contains homework assignments. The readings are perfect for first grade. They start very easy with basic cvc words, and becomes more complex throughout the book. There is a corresponding comprehension page that goes with every reading assignment. It includes a brief note to the parents on how to help their child read better, and a few comprehension questions with appropriate space to answer. My biggest complaint with comprehension workbooks that I have tried to buy is that even 'first grade' books are written at too high a level for the first graders to read. This is perfect because most first graders should be able to read the passages with little help, although they may need some help with the questions in the beginning. I also love the parent contact piece because I teach in a poor urban school where parents don't always know how to help their children learn. The small tips are applicable to any story, so it helps to educate the parents on how their children can learn reading better.
