We use these as a school wide project at the beginning of the school. Each child decorates one, then we put them all together for a community bulletin board. Be sure to mark so all are decorated on the same side - it makes putting pieces together much easier!

Fun and easy

I use this the first day of school to get to know the new students. They like putting symbols about themselves on the puzzle pieces, then they tell the class about their symbols. It also becomes part of an attractive bulletin board for back to school night.

Fun First Week Activity!

My 3rd grade students love this project. On the first day I have each student color their piece in a way that they feel represents them. We then tell about our pieces and put the puzzle together. We leave it up all year long. I also read the book, I'm Special, I'm Me! which focuses on the fact that we are all unique, but that makes us special as a group. The puzzle ties in perfectly. The only downside is, I wish they would have made the back of the puzzle a different color! Both sides are white. Word to the wise...put a dot or mark on the back of each puzzle piece so students color the front side. If not, the puzzle won't fit together. I learned this the hard way.

All Fit In

I use this as a classroom community builder at the beginning of the year and leave it up all year. Students and parents enjoy seeing student pictures (I use my digital camera to take each student's picture which they glue onto their puzzle piece), and it emphasizes my theme of "team".
