Encourage Student Self-Reflection By Writing Beginning-Of-The-Year Letters To Review At The End Of The Year

Give students these letters at the beginning of school to fill in with information about themselves, and add a photo or self-portrait. When they're finished, ask them to fold them up and place them in the matching envelopes. Then collect and store the envelopes. At the end of the year, pass them back for students to complete with new information and a new photo. They'll enjoy comparing new and old information and seeing how much they've changed.

My students loved the letter

I used the letter with my first grade class. At the beginning of the year I had to ask them what they wrote and thenI wrote the correct spelling above the words. When I pulled out the letter at the end of the year most of the students forgot that they wrote the letter. They were so excited and shocked (about their handwriting and spelling). I will be using it again next school year.

Good for "time capsules"

We do a "time capsule" each year on the first day of school and open it on the last day. This letter to me was perfect for this.

Good surprise for the end of the year

I used this product for the first time last school year. My students had completely forgotten they had written the letters at the beginning of the year and were cracking up at the "cheesy" things they had written. It was lots of fun to see how much they had or had not changed over the course of a school year. I wish there was more space for them to actually write a letter to themselves.

I will order this again next year.

It can be a little challenging for reluctant writers You need to give enough time for them.

Great Memory

Good way to start the year. Not real detailed but a good way to start the year. I might include this letter with a Start of the Year journal for a great memory activity of the year.
