Sourcing Specialist

Really Good Stuff - Monroe, CT

We are seeking a Sourcing Specialist to manage domestic and foreign sourcing process for new proprietary products, beginning with concept handover from Product Development through receipt of first production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives new product concepts from Product Development and assembles cross functional team to establish and define product specifications and drawings, artwork, packaging, margin target, and product introduction schedule.
  • Generates RFQ and distributes to potential sources of supply; communicates detailed specifications to vendors and ultimately gathers vendor quotes including tooling lead time, sampling lead time, manufacturing lead time, MOQ, pricing, terms and conditions
  • Evaluates vendor proposals; collaborates with Product Development to integrate manufacturer suggestions regarding product design changes, raw materials, manner of manufacturing; solicits cost reduction opportunities from vendors and collaborates with Product Development to incorporate cost reducing efforts into new product designs;
  • Coordinates the production of vendor and internal drawings, concluding to a final drawing and specification to be used for sampling. Collaborates with designers, developers, engineers, artists and manufacturers to finalize optimal product designs.
  • Analyzes margins across vendor quotes, along with capacity, access to raw materials supply chain, vendor ability and technology, and recommend a source of supply with whom to move to sampling stage.
  • Negotiates set up fees, sampling fees, tool and die costs for new proprietary products.
  • Manages and expedites detailed project schedule for each new product launch including quoting, sampling, developer approvals, product changes, compliance and testing requirements, first production and delivery; circulates progress reporting, identifies and resolves roadblocks, and expedites sourcing tasks to meet launch date targets.
  • Researches and consults with vendors to finalize specifications, determine optimal manufacturing processes, find manufacturing efficiencies, select optimal raw materials, reduce lead time, reduce cost, ensure quality product at optimal margin.
  • Collaborates with Product development and Merchandising to define how each new product will be merchandised and sold, thereby identifying detailed kitting needs; drives assignment of sku numbers, Bill of Material set up and VAI set up of new product,
  • Manages timely delivery and approval of concept samples, golden samples, and shipment samples, to ensure final products meet all specifications.
  • Audits final product artwork including logos, color matching, identity, compliance and other labels are sent to vendors on time and in accurate condition; expedites RGIG development; coordinates internal approval of proofs to ensure new products are accurately labeled and within specification with regard to all labeling and aesthetics.
  • Leads and manages cross functional team and vendors to resolve and execute product design changes, ensuring launch dates remain undisturbed
  • Collaborates with Purchasing to leverage buying power and manufacturing efficiencies, by combining existing product reorders and new products; expedite process of first buy for new products in conjunction with Purchasing
  • Leads a rapid response to consumer complaints on newly introduced proprietary products; collaborates with Customer Service, Product Development, Purchasing and suppliers to resolve latent design or production problems on newly introduced products.
  • Collaborates with Product Safety & Compliance to define and execute internal and external product testing for new products; assists PS&C with managing vendors to insure each product is fully compliant, lawful and safe and conforms to Company standards; maintains reasonably solid general knowledge of safety and compliance regulations by product family.
  • Ensures various Company systems are updated with latest and most accurate detailed sourcing data including product and packaging and kitting specifications, vendor quotes, MOQs; collaborates with Purchasing and vendors to calculate most accurate landed costs, to ensure margin projections are accurate.
  • Manages project communications and acts as Company representative to vendors and potential vendors, relevant to new proprietary products in development
  • Manages assorted special projects involving new products, as required
  • Maintains and continues to develop knowledge of assigned product categories, and their manufacturing methods and raw materials
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in business or related with 4+ years of project or product management experience. Well versed in procurement practices and principles. Foreign sourcing experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.

Teacher Materials Product Developer

Really Good Stuff - Monroe, CT

Have you ever created materials to use in your classroom? Are you ready to step out of the classroom but still have an impact on the education of children? We are looking for an in-house creative Teacher Materials Product Developer. Under the general supervision of the Product Development Director, this person manages the development, design, and implementation of new products for the educational market.

Essential functions and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop products for grade levels Pre-K through 5.
  • Collaborate with Product Category Managers to translate product line analysis into products to be developed.
  • Present product ideas based on research, teacher panel feedback / suggestions.
  • Collaborate with department members to develop the best execution for products as well as provides direction to the Category Managers on product usages, benefits and design direction.
  • Execute all product development efforts in conjunction with published departmental calendar to meet all deadlines.
  • Manage product development cycle from ideation to completion including all art approvals and sampling.
  • Work with Procurement, Quality Assurance and Creative Services to ensure that product development goals are achieved and business risks are minimized.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of product and identify opportunities for improved margin, lower costs and extended product life.
  • Oversee customer research, including surveys, advisory panel, and local teacher panels.
  • Determine if outside resources are needed and manage freelance projects.
  • Monitor education trends and competitor's efforts through a variety of avenues including: review of competitor’s catalog, web, ancillary promotions, educational magazines, blogs, and visiting classrooms a few times per year. Occasionally attend trade shows and/or educational seminars. Seek opportunities for continued professional development.
  • Build awareness and understanding of the products throughout the company.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS and or MS Degree in Elementary or Early Childhood education or related field with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in elementary education.
  • Strong understanding of how students learn with an awareness of best practices in instruction and education.
  • Experience in product development a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong writing and communication skills

Warehouse Second Shift Manager

Under the general supervision of the Distribution Center Director, manages all functions related to Replenishment and Order Processing for the 2nd shift warehousing operations and associates.

Essential functions and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage all 2nd shift activities associated with replenishment, order fulfillment and shipping
  • Manage hourly direct labor & supervisory staff assigned to 2nd shift
  • Develop capacity planning and headcount requirements to support order volumes, including seasonal/temporary/part time labor
  • Analyze on going status of new and pending orders; balance order fulfillment functions to support daily shipping targets
