Mother’s Day is right around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about some classroom crafts and activities just for mom. This year, move beyond noodle necklaces and wow her with some heartfelt gifts and fun activities. With a little creativity and construction paper, this year’s gift will be a sure hit.
Mother’s Day Celebration Ideas
Picture Perfect
“On a bright and sunny day, the girls take turns dressing in my wedding dress and the boys take turns dressing in my husband’s coat and cowboy hat,” explains Bridgett, a Kindergarten Teacher from Wells, MN. “I then take black and white pictures of each student by the fountain or under the trees. When the pictures are developed I enclose each one in a window card and write the following sentiment on the inside…
Dear Mom,
No matter how big I get,
I will always love you
and need you.
Love,
(Student’s Name)
Many parents thank me personally for putting together these beautiful cards. Seeing their little one dressed in such wedding finery really touches their hearts – and mine as well!”
Muffins for Mom
Emily, a 2nd Grade Teacher in Phoenix, AZ, describes a great way to celebrate moms during the day. “We celebrate Mother’s Day by planning a “Muffins for Mom” breakfast. We help students make muffin-shaped invitations and then make or purchase muffins to serve on the big day along with coffee, tea, and juice. While moms munch on the muffins, their children take turns reading aloud poems about mothers. This idea was such a big hit at our school, we’ve turned it into an annual event.”
Mommy Day Spa
“For Mother’s Day, invite mothers to be pampered by their children,” suggests Kelly, a 1st Grade Teacher in Pisgah Forest, NC. “Set up stations in the classroom. (The mothers are first greeted at the door by a host and hostess, then sung to by the children). The stations might include but are not limited to:
- Nail painting station where moms can have their nails painted
- Relaxing station where moms lie down on a lounge chair and have cucumber slices on their eyes while listening to quiet music on headphones
- Hand Mask station where children mix corn meal and water to make a hand softener to be rubbed on the hands of moms
- Refreshment station where students serve muffins and juice
- Reading station where children read books and poems about mothers
- Gift station where moms are presented with gifts made by the children
- Glamour Shots station where moms get to dress up in a hat and jewelry and have their pictures taken by the kids.

This year our grade level teachers (2nd) are asking each student to bring in a favorite recipe. We’re going to combine the recipes together, bind them, take the kids pictures in a chef hat, and give a recipe book to mom.

I LOVE the mother’s day spa idea!!! I know moms will love this. Do you have parents donate the materials you need? How long is each station? About how long does it take to go through all the stations?
