Heartwarming Stories for Teachers
Caring Soles
“I teach in a very economically depressed school district,” says Kerry, a 1st Grade Teacher in Maynardville, Tennessee. “One of the boys in my classroom noticed that one of his classmates wore the same clothes every day and his shoes had holes in the toes so they would still accommodate his growing feet. This little boy went home and asked his parents if he could buy him some new clothes. The next thing I knew he arrived at school with a box the size of a large TV, with clothes for every season and shoes. The boy implored me to
never tell anyone where the gift came from. I honored his request, but at the end of our year I awarded this boy and his parents a special certificate for community service with heart.”
The True Meaning of Standing Up for Yourself
Ann, a 1st Grade Teacher from Brunswick, Georgia shares with us a story that is sure to bring tears to your eyes. “Every month we nominate a child who exhibits good citizenship traits. This month, I nominated one of my students with Cerebral Palsy. I chose this student because, despite his physical challenges, he maintains a most friendly and positive attitude. Apparently, I was not the only one who thought this boy deserved special recognition as he was selected as the Overall Winner in 1st Grade, which means he was invited to join the other Overall Winners as they stood in a place of honor in front of the school during our Friday assembly. On the big day, when my student’s name was called, I whispered to him that he didn’t really have to “stand” the whole time – that he could just sit on his walker instead. He looked me squarely in the eye and said, ‘There are times when a person just needs to stand.’ He proceeded to stand unassisted for the entire assembly with the biggest smile on his face and a glow that made everyone’s heart stand up and take notice.”
