5 Egg Carton Crafts for Kids
School Bus
Materials:
- Egg carton (top)
- Yellow paint
- Paintbrush
- Safety scissors
- Black construction paper
- Black marker or sharpie
- Magazines
Instructions:
Preschoolers can paint the egg carton yellow. While that’s drying, cut four small circles out of the black construction paper for the wheels of each bus. Put aside. Go through the magazine and help children cut out some images of people to put in the bus windows. When the egg carton is dry, glue on the wheels and the people. Write SCHOOL BUS at the top with the black marker and begin to play!
Caterpillar
Materials:
- Egg carton (cut into strips of 6 cups)
- Green paint
- Paintbrush
- Chenille stem
- Sharpened pencil
- Wiggly eyes
- Glue
Instructions:
Paint the strips green. After they have dried, adults or teachers can poke two antennae holes in the top of the first cup using the pencil (make sure it is sharp). Children can thread each end of a single chenille stem through each hole creating the antennae. Mold antennae into desired style – adding a curl or standing it straight up. Glue or stick the wiggly eyes on and encourage little learners to engage in some pretend play.
Butterfly
Materials:
- Egg carton (cut into 4 cup sections squared)
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Chenille stem
Instructions:
Preschoolers can paint the carton piece any desired color or colors to decorate the wings of the butterfly. Once dry, wrap a chenille stem around the middle of the carton piece and twist up the ends, creating the body and antennae.
Flower Garland
Materials:
- Egg carton (cut into individual cups)
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Chenille stems
- Sharpened pencil
Instructions:
Preschoolers can paint the cups all different colors. When they have dried, adults or teachers can poke a hole through the middle of each cup. Children can then thread one chenille stem through one cup until all the cups have a chenille stem inserted. Twist the ends of the stems together creating one long chain of flowers. Hang up the flower garland all around the classroom.
Wind Chime
Materials:
- Egg carton (cut into individual cups)
- Twine or string
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Jingle bells
- Stick or twig
- Scissors
- Sharpened pencil
Instructions:
Adults or teachers can poke a hole into the center of each cup with the sharpened pencil and the preschoolers can paint each individual egg carton cup, as well as, the stick or twig. Put aside to dry. Using the scissors, cut the twine into varying lengths. Attach one bell at the end of each piece of twine with a knot. Children can then thread the jingle bell twine through the cup (open side facing the bell) and then tie the other end of the twine to the dry painted stick. Once the desired amount of bells has been attached to the twig, tie a piece of twine to the ends of the stick in order to hang up the mobile.
