Last Minute Halloween Costumes for Kids
Robot
This fun and easy costume will need a few accessories from the home improvement store, but after that you will be ready to go. For the body, grab a large cardboard box and spray paint it silver after cutting a hole in the bottom for your child’s head and one on each side for arm holes. Place an old army or bike helmet that has been covered with tinfoil on your child’s head to continue the robot theme. After bundling up and putting on the robot body, place arms and legs in collapsible silver, metallic heating vents. Inexpensive and unique, this robot costume is sure to cause quite a stir.
Businessman or Businesswoman
Turn your child into a pint-sized corporate executive for Halloween. Search your closet for an old suit, tie and briefcase. Grab a pair of inexpensive wire framed sunglasses and pop the lenses out, so that your child can wear just the frames. Have them put on their dress shoes and you have an easy costume that looks great.
School Bus Driver
Put your child in charge of the bus with this fun costume. Decorate a large box by painting it yellow and painting the markings of a school bus on its side. To keep it from slipping, attach two lengths of red or yellow ribbon to the box for shoulder straps. Place a small bicycle horn inside the box or along the outside, so that your school bus driver can step into the box and honk on his way to get candy.
Cat
This Halloween costume is purr-fect for kids of all ages! Find an inexpensive pair of gray or white sweatpants and a matching sweatshirt. Wrap an old headband in gray or white ribbon and attach two pieces of felt on the top to stand up like ears. Use a soft, black eyeliner pencil on your child’s cheeks to draw on whiskers. If your child is a gray cat, a pair of gray gloves, gray sneakers and a long gray piece of furry fabric for the tail will complete the costume. The best part is that after trick-or-treating, your child will be able to wear the sweatpants and shirt over again!
