Supports Phoneme Manipulation Identify the place - beginning, medial, or final - of the differing sound in two words.
How The Game Is Played:
Students analyze a chipboard tile card with two pictures on it and identify which phoneme has changed from one picture to the other—beginning, middle, or ending. Then they place the picture in the corresponding column on the Where’s the Change? mat—either the beginning, middle, or end.
This activity gives students practice segmenting words intophonemes, or sounds, and identifying different sound positions within a word.
This is an excellent literacy center activity for all students, especially English languagelearners, who benefit from having picture cues to acquire new vocabulary.
