This Hands-On Activity Will Excite Kids On Day One.
Idea by Beverly, Kindergarten Teacher, Universal City, Texas:

When the children visit the classroom prior to the first day of school, they trace their hands and feet on construction paper. Tell them that when they come to school the first day, their handprints and footprints will be hidden around the classroom. Then, at the appointed time on that first day, have the children hunt for the handprints and footprints labeled with their names. After all the prints have been located, display them on the classroom wall. Footprints will appear to be walking along the wall, while the handprints can be used to display students’ work.
