I used these puzzle pieces last year and will use them again this year as an activity the first week of school with my 2nd grade class. I stress to my students that even though we are all different and individual, we still all are the same in many ways, and we need each other to make a whole. After the students decorate their "person" I put them all together on the bulletin board in the hall to show how well they all fit together.

I use these with first graders. They work in groups of three and write sentence strips telling what they like to do together. They design their puzzle kid to look like them. Then we put the pieces together in groups of three and display them with their sentence strips. This is a back to school activity designed to build friendships and community. The kids love putting the pieces together and sometimes we link the entire class and count how many boys, girls, etc. Fun project!
